SOUTH SIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL DAILY
BULLETIN
WEDNESDAY JUNE 3RD
DAY 4
Flag Day is June 14th.
This tradition dates all the way back to 1777 when the Continental Congress first approved the design for a national flag. But Flag Day isn’t just a history lesson and the flag itself isn’t just a piece of fabric. The 50 stars and 13 stripes represent a living story – our country’s history, our growth, and the ongoing journey to build a better future.
The red stripes stand for valor and bravery, the white for purity and innocence, and the blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice. More than that the flag represents the ideals we strive for every single day: liberty, equality, and justice for all people. It’s a visual reminder that even though we all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life, we are all woven into the same fabric of this community.
As we look at the flag today during the Pledge of Allegiance, let’s take a moment to reflect on what those values mean to us. We can honor the spirit of the flag right here in our own school by standing up for one another, listening to different perspectives, and treating every person in these hallways with respect and kindness.
Thank you for your attention, have a wonderful day, and Happy Flag Day!
Now for Sports:
The Spring Track and Field team had a great meet on Monday June at Oceanside Middle School. Major highlights include great run by Angie Real, Sinead Reilly, and Giuliana Gervino. Sonny Rosa had an amazing 1500 race and the boy’s relay team featuring Ben Yin, Jack Napoli, Jeremy Cerrera and Joshua Fletcher came in first. Coaches Pinto, Duggan, Flynn, Swayne, Ryan and Pogo are so proud!
Congratulations to the Softball team on a great season. Yesterday the girls beat Island Trees behind excellent play from the top of the order to the bottom. Alice McKenna pitched a great game with Helena Nilsen holding down the catcher position. Coach DiGiacomo is very proud of all of you!
Have a great day South Side!
