DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday, December 8, Day 6

100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Attention SSMS:  This year we will be celebrating the 100 year anniversary of this building, 67 Hillside Avenue.  Our building has been a High School, a Junior High, and of course, a Middle School.  Be on the lookout this year for amazing ways to help celebrate our great school building.

To help us celebrate we will be promoting the hashtag #centennial;
a word which means 100 year anniversary.

This week is Inclusive Schools Week at South Side Middle School.  From ancient civilizations to the present time, unity and connection have been essential in order for communities to not only survive but thrive.  This week we encourage you to build a new friendship, take time to learn something new about a fr4iend, and find an opportunity to include everyone.  Remember communities remain strong when united together!

Today’s inclusive quote is “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” by Helen Keller

South Side Middle School Mission Statement

South Side Middle School is a learning environment that provides students with opportunities to move toward the goal of being independent learners and thinkers. Our goal is to provide experiences to help students understand their unique aptitudes and interests and be able to adjust to their rapidly changing environment, while meeting their unique physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs.

We strive to create a climate that enables students to develop a sense of self-worth, and have compassion and respect for others by valuing individual differences. We facilitate a caring learning environment where students feel safe, important and engaged. Our students demonstrate responsible global citizenship, and are cognizant of their place within the school community.

In this success-oriented environment, we provide opportunities for exploration and risk-taking. The structure of the school day is designed to permit students to reach the standards established by the New York State Board of Regents, while adhering to New York State Standards and embracing the framework of the IB Middle Years Programme. Our vision is to create lifelong learners who seek to attain balance in all that they do.

RVC Schools Mission Statement

It is our goal to empower each student to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s emerging world. The District will provide a safe, nurturing environment in which individual and civic responsibility is  fostered, diversity is respected and all students are enabled to realize their full potential.
