The South Side Middle School Cross Country Team blew the competition away at their second meet of the season at Valley Stream State Park on Wednesday. 8 out of the top 10 runners in the girls’ race were from the SSMS team. Lila Rivara finished first again with Emmy Iandorio, Abby McEneaney, Emily Spoerel, Nora Tarpey, Lily O’Brien, Liv Culver and Giuliana Gervina all following close behind.
The boys also dominated their race with 8 SSMS runners in the top 10, Peter Choi took first place followed by Eric Junker, Nolan Narine, Cooper Musa, Miles Musa, Conroy Miller, Wes Garson and Quinn Fitzpatrick. Coaches Baulch, Pinto and Nastro are very proud of the whole team!
The 8th grade boys’ soccer team dominated against Syosset yesterday and won 6-3. The defense was led by Ben Brakstad, Brendan Barry, Patrick Cahalan, and Arron Hettinger in the net. Goals were scored by Roman Guarini, gene Vassel, and Martin Campoverde. Thomas Dunphy had three brilliant assists. Dimitri Pefanis and Matt Navarette fired the team up by helping us push pas Syosset in the second half when the game was still tied. Great job boys!
The 7th grade boys’ soccer team came away with another win yesterday over South Woods by a score of 5-2. Josh Darlington and Dylan Endy got the scoring started for the team off two corner kicks. With a South Woods comeback and the game tied 2-2, Oliver Newhaus scored the game winning goal off a header with 6 minutes left in the game. Adam Quenttant and Matthew Olendike scored a goal each to clinch the win for the cyclones. Player of the game goes out to goalie Julian Hardenburgh who cut off a break away from South Woods late in the second half. Mr. McGorty and Coach Swayne are so proud of the team’s efforts. Go Cyclones! The team will meet Mr. McGorty in the main gym after school on Monday.
