World Down Syndrome Day
This Friday March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day! Down Syndrome is due to an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. This gives someone with DS three copies of this chromosome instead of the typical number of two. Since there are three 21s, World Down Syndrome Day is March 21st. To celebrate, the Student Council is sponsoring a Crazy Sock Day! When looking at a karyotype (a picture of our chromosomes, stained for viewing under a microscope), the chromosomes look like paired socks. The staining makes them look striped. Socks will be on sale outside of room 121 this week!
March is Women’s History Month!
The quote of the day is by Serena Williams. She said: “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up.
