SSMS Summer Reading 2024-2025

Posted Date: 7/11/24 (10:26 AM)

“Summer reading is about kicking off shoes, staying up much too late, reading all day with no one caring, that's what you’re doing. It’s about rushing through one to get to the next or lingering as long as you want. It’s about vicarious experiences that let us become a girl in an attic, a boy in the wilderness, a kite runner in a far-away land. And that type of reading begins with personal choice.”

Dr. Kylene Beers: educator, author, and former president of the National Council of Teachers of English

Requirements:
  1. Choose a book of your CHOICE that is grade-level appropriate: A list of suggested titles is attached but you may choose another text that piques your interest!
  2. Reading Response Worksheets are REQUIRED of all students. Worksheets are located after each grade level list. Complete the tasks assigned to your grade. Your ELA teacher will provide a due date in September; due dates will be in the month of September and vary by grade level.
  3. You are NOT ALLOWED to read the following texts because we read them together in class. DO NOT read them for summer reading.
    • The Wednesday Wars
    • Fish in a Tree
    • The Hunger Games
    • The Outsiders
    • The Five People You Meet in Heaven
